Steele Associates

Sustainability

Steele Associates are serious about sustainability. A commitment to solving environmental problems was the driving factor in establishing Steele Associates. We’re just beginning what we hope will be a productive journey towards solving environmental problems. Here are some of the things we are proud to have achieved so far.

Case Study - Green Skills

Carbon Offset Management

Steele Associates is the only design and construct organisation we know of in the world to fully offset the carbon produced not only in our office but on each and every project we undertake. By measuring expenditure and quantities we arrive at a carbon sum for each project and contribute to a sustainable development project to offset these omissions.

This year Steele Associates will contribute over $50,000 to offsetting carbon emissions through sustainable development projects.

“Steele Associates have shown tremendous courage and leadership through the voluntary contributions they have made since 2007 to combat climate change. We applaud their commitment and look forward to helping them achieve their environmental goals in the future.” Rob Cawthorn - Managing Director - Carbon Reduction Institute.

Carbon credits purchased support projects which abate carbon. This would not have occurred without the investment from Steele Associates. The projects which reduce carbon emissions through renewable energy and energy efficiency meet the Voluntary Carbon Standard and can be viewed here.

Australian Wildlife Conservancy

The Australian Wildlife Conservancy (AWC) shows remarkable initiative in purchasing and protecting Australia’s threatened ecosystems. Through regular ongoing donations to AWC, Steele Associates has contributed towards the protection of 442 hectares (almost 1000 acres) of critical habitat for some of Australia’s most threatened fauna. These include:

  • Purchase and protect 328 hectares (722.5 acres) of stunning desert wilderness at Kalamurina Wildlife Sanctuary, now the largest private reserve in Australia;
  • Conserve 20 ha (44 acres) of pristine wetlands for an entire year at Piccaninny Plains Wildlife Sanctuary in the heart of Cape York;
  • Secure 76 hectares (167 acres) of rugged sandstone escarpment for the threatened wildlife of the Gulf of Carpentaria at Pungalina Wildlife Sanctuary; and
  • Preserve 18 hectares (40 acres) of habitat for the threatened bird life of Bowra: a jewel in the heart of the Mulga Lands of south-west Queensland.

“Australian Wildlife Conservancy would like to thank Steele Associates for their generous support which has made an invaluable difference to endangered species in threatened ecosystems.”
Shauna Chadlowe – Development Executive – Australian Wildlife Conservancy

There is still a great deal of work to be done if we are to save Australia’s threatened wildlife and their habitats but, with your support, AWC is offering new hope for their future.
